Kirsty and I saw our first migratory shorebirds of Summer (well Spring really); 2 beautiful Common Sandpipers on the Wilson Inlet at Spring Bay, one roosting on a log and one feeding on the shoreline. They have a characteristically bobbing motion when feeding and are generally found on the shoreline, quite often at the Prawn Rock Channel, we’ve also seen them at Poison Point. They migrate to the mid/north of Asia and are usually one of the first to arrive here, not particularly “common”, the “Common” here likely refers to them exhibiting common characteristics of the sandpiper family.
